 Lemon (Citrus limonum) is another uplifting and refreshing citrus scent. The pale yellow oil is obtained by cold pressing the peel. It is a powerful antimicrobial agent, as well as being antitoxic, astringent, diuretic and tonic. Applied topically, lemon is used in the treatment of acne, boils, warts and poor circulation while its astringent action makes it helpful in balancing oily skin. In addition, the oil is also beneficial in ridding cellulite- partially due to its ability to tone the lymph. Lemon oil can make the skin photosensitive, and therefore should not be applied immediately prior to sun exposure. As an inhalation, it helps to clear catarrh and alleviate the symptoms of cold, flu and bronchitis. The fresh and cooling scent of lemon blends well with lavender, neroli, chamomile, rose, sandalwood and other types of citrus. |
